Spring 2017 News

Greetings to our Guild members and our music loving friends!

With great pleasure, we would like to welcome our non-Latvian speakers to also join the Guild. This is a perfect time for you to join the Guild and our Latvian community. Enclosed in the News document above is a membership card.

Due to Latvia's 100 year Anniversary celebrations in 2018, it promises to be unique by producing numerous memorable musical concerts, shows, operas and the spectacular Song Festivals. Guess what? You can be a part of it! Most of us can agree that music transcends all languages and nationalities. However, LNOĢ primary mission is to support Latvian musical endeavors. And it looks like, a lot of the action is going to be in Latvia, Europe and The USA! Probably worldwide!

Of course, we intend to continue the Guild's publications and newsletters in Latvian, but it's only fair to provide our non-Latvian speakers also an English summary. We are hereby including some articles in English. The Latvian National Opera Guild is open to your suggestions. Perhaps you would like to contribute articles, post comments or photos? Do you attend the Metropolitan Opera? Did you know that fans of our famous Latvian Met stars usually meet by the bar in the first balcony during intermission and frequently meet the artists after the opera? Last year, The Latvian National Opera Guild celebrated its 25th Anniversary with an elegant reception, concert, dinner and dancing in NYC. Don't miss out on the next event!

What else did we do in 2016? To mention a few - We supported financially The Figaro Studio in Rīga which trains young musicians and singers. We also supplied a couple of instruments for LNO orchestra. Recently, we sponsored an international competition for a new Latvian opera. As a result, there is a resurgence of young composers in Latvia. Our next big project - To help sponsor and finance a children's opera which is to be produced by TIARA Girls Choir in Rīga. It was composed by a world renowned Latvian composer, Imants Ramiņš. The Nightingale (Lakstīgala) is based on a fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen. Also, LNOG has a concert scheduled for June 4th at 11:30 AM at The Latvian Lutheran Church 254 Valentine Lane, Yonkers, NY by a promising new lyrical soprano Evita Pehlaka. She was admitted to Manhattan Opera Studio and will have a concert at Carnegie Hall in July.

Hopefully, we'll be seeing you soon. Uz drīzu tikšanos!
